Music
At Glascote Academy, we wish to give children a rich engaging curriculum which will also equip them with good academic knowledge and life skills. We believe Cultural Capital through creativity guides aspirations and ambitions that some children may not experience through their every day lives.
Our Music Curriculum, in line with the National Curriculum and National Music Plan, gives our children opportunities to express themselves through singing, music and playing instruments which supports the development of both substantive and disciplinary knowledge.
Furthermore, all children access a broad musical culture via regular singing for pleasure during assemblies and services including Harvest, Christmas and Easter. Our pupils sing in Church on a termly basis and for local community residents and groups.
Our Year 6 pupils complete a graded Music Ensemble Examination through the London College of Music.
Children with SEND will access all lessons via scaffolding up as necessary and our staff will ensure that high expectations are held for all children.
Our curriculum coverage in Music at Glascote Academy is delivered to all year groups from Reception to Year 6 by “Rockit” Music during weekly lessons. Also, pupils in Keystage Two have weekly Music Theory lessons delivered by classteachers.
During lessons, our pupils will:
Through high quality teaching of the curriculum, our pupils retrieve essential knowledge as they embed secure skills.
Music knowledge and skills are built upon through incremental steps which begin in our Early Years and culminate in a final Year 6 external examination.
