Fierté Multi Academy Trust is committed to promoting and prioritising diversity and inclusion. We encourage our academy Local Governing Committees (LGC’s) to recognise the benefits of diversity and appoint governors from a variety of backgrounds.
Recruiting people from diverse backgrounds with a range of experiences onto our LGC’s is an important step. The Trust supports LGC’s throughout the process of recruiting new governors, with strategies they can put in place to ensure all governors feel included, which leads to improved retention. This is an ongoing process which we will need to keep reflecting on as to how we achieve this.
The Local Governing Committee at Glascote Academy is fully committed to working together to ensure your children thrive, enjoy their learning and strive to achieve their full potential through the widest curriculum we can offer.
The Local Governing Committee are the strategic leaders of our school and have a vital role to play in making sure every child receives the best possible education. Their purpose, reflected in the law, is to 'conduct the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement at the school'. They have a strong focus on three core strategic functions:
Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff;
Overseeing the financial performance of the school with the Trust board Finance Committee and making sure its money is well spent.
We are fortunate to have a Local Governing Committee who are committed and work with staff to ensure that all learners achieve and fulfil their potential. The Local Governing Committee meets on a termly basis. In addition to meetings, Governors attend termly Governor days at Glascote Academy with separate Curriculum and Standards Meetings.

A proportion of our trustees/governors are from ethnic minorities, with an approximate 50% being female. However, the trust understands that more needs to be done to increase representation on LGB’s and we are working with them to grow the networks we engage with to further this aim.

Mr Peter Armitage - Chair of Governors
My name is Peter Armitage, and I am proud to be Chair of Governors of Glascote Academy.
I work for the Royal Mail as a Community Action Co-ordinator and I have been proud to be involved with Glascote Academy since 1998.
In March 2010, I was made the News of the World’s children’s’ Champion and in April of the same year, met Her Majesty the Queen at Windsor Castle, where I was awarded the MBE.
I enjoy my work at Glascote Academy, working alongside the Headteacher and Student Governors, a role I relish, and supporting educational trips and rewards through my work with Royal Mail, which is something I am very committed to. I upheld the role of Vice Chair of Governors for 8 years, and took on the role of Chair in December 2025.

Miss Michelle Powell - Headteacher
My career at Glascote Academy began in September 1998 as a newly qualified teacher, rising to Senior Leadership, Deputy Headteacher and finally Headteacher in 2018. During this time, I have seen many changes to the school. However, I am happy to say that the school continues to push forward and is always striving to provide the best education and opportunities that it can for all of its pupils. I am extremely proud to work at such a special school and with such amazing, committed people. On a personal note, I am both a proud mother and a grandmother, and when time allows, I enjoy reading and spending time with my loved ones.

Mrs Fay Evans - Vice Chair of Governors
I became a parent governor to contribute to Glascote Academy’s continued improvement and development and to ensure that all of our children’s school experience is as inclusive, diverse and developmentally challenging as it can be.
I'm proud to be part of creating a school where our children can achieve their best, because they have a positive, nurturing environment that inspires them to learn, especially the farm.
Personally, I have almost twenty years' experience in retail management. This allows me to bring transferable skills to the role of governance. For example, people management, data analysis, developing policies and guidelines, budget control and health and safety.
My own children are part of the Glascote family, and therefore, I have a vested interest in the school's future. I am passionate about ensuring that all our children become lifelong learners, can achieve the best of their abilities and are above all happy at school.

Miss Eva Bowers - Staff Governor
I joined the Glascote Academy family in 2014. During this time, I have progressed to Assistant Headteacher. As part of my role, I lead Early Years, Key Stage one, Fundraising, Outdoor Learning and support the Head Teacher with whole school initiatives and improvement.
I am very passionate about the Early Years ethos and curriculum, and I am lucky enough to teach full-time in Reception.
In my own time, I enjoy socialising with my friends and family, being part of Girl Guiding, where I help to run a Brownie Unit. I love to travel and aspire to see the world; these are aspirations I wish to instil into the children of Glascote Academy.

Mr Rob Vernon
I have been a governor at Glascote Academy since May 2024. I have extensive experience as a governor of another Tamworth school, having spent several years as Co-Chair and as Chairs of various committees, starting as a parent governor and remaining at that school long after my own children had left, who are now adults.
In my professional career, I am an IT manager at Tamworth Borough Council, having worked there for over 17 years, with responsibility for business systems, application development and data insight.
Outside of work, I have a keen interest in fitness and am an Event Director at Tamworth Castle Grounds park run.
I hope to be able to bring my professional skills and qualities and my governance experience here into my role at Glascote Academy.
